Here's an interview I did during my time at Miami Montage, the Peace Sullivan/James Ansin Journalism and New Media Workshop, hosted by University of Miami. In 2011, the theme for Miami Montage was Social Media: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. In addition to publishing a newspaper, I also produced a video of my interview with Angie Varona and her father.
My story covered the experience of a girl in Miami whose private photos were leaked online and overnight turned into one of the most recognized sex symbols on the internet. My story gained the attention of ABC News, Good Morning America, the Anderson Cooper show, pretty much everyone started talking about it. I was pretty excited when this happened, because I was just starting my path in journalism. When Fox News 11 in California took parts of my video and gave no credit to myself or the Miami Montage program, the director of Miami Montage—Mupalia Wakhisi—issued the statement below:
